gunmetal & silver

Hey everyone!
My exams were exhausting, but here I am, finally, with a new mani for you. Yep, no more boring swatches :)
I had bought a bunch of striping tapes from Ebay a couple of months ago and I haven't been using them too often. The reason behind this is that they're pretty sticky and I'm not the most patient person in the world, so I ended up with plenty of ruined manicures. Anyway... I took my time yesterday and finally managed to get a decent manicure.

Here's what I did.
I painted all of my nails with a silver polish, waited around 15 minutes for it to dry thoroughly. Believe me, you must wait for the base polish to dry, or the tape will lift off some of it. I cut a bunch of pieces of my striping tape and made various designs on each nail. Another thing you should probably do: cut your stripes before you paint your nails (or you might make a dent on your thumb like I did). Make sure you do each nail one at a time, because it's much easier like that. I painted over the entire nails with a dark, gunmetal polish called Kleancolor Charcoal and added two layers of top coat.

Here's a flash photo, just so that you can see the sparkle in the darker polish.

Thanks for reading & see you soon with more manicures :)

2012 favorites

Hey everyone!
I know I'm kind of late with my 2012 favorites, but I took my time and chose wisely.
I decided to pick a favorite from each color instead of picking top 10 polishes like I did last year.
So, here are my favorite picks of 2012!

Favorite red: Kleancolor Bite Me
Ever since I ordered this polish, I knew it was going to win my heart. I'm not a big fan of red polishes, but this one is really special to me.
Original post - here.

Favorite pink: Golden Rose Jolly Jewels 109
I bought plenty of pink polishes this year, but this one was an absolute winner. I thing you'll agree with me. Original post - here.

Favorite orange: Seventeen Supreme 23
I spent a lot of time searching for a pretty pastel orange and I finally found it!
Original post - here.

Favorite brown: Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black
Okay this one might be a bit confusing, but I did the categories according to the base color of the polish and even though this one is called Chunky Holo Black, it actually has a brown base.
Original post - here.

Favorite yellow: Maybelline Urban Lemon
I don't own a lot of yellow polishes, but this one really caught my eye.
Original post - here.

Favorite green: Deborah Milano Pistache Green
This one had a lot of competition as I always buy a lot of green and blue polishes.
Original post - here.

Favorite blue: Rimmel London Aye, Aye Sailor
I didn't hesitate for a moment when I chose this one. I might even say that it's my favorite out of all polishes that I bought in 2012.

Favorite purple: Essence Boys Are Back In Town/It's Just a Little Crush duo
I couldn't just pick one of the two, because they simply don't look the same like that.
Original post - here.

Favorite neutral: Rimmel London Alaska
Another winner from Rimmel London. I love wearing this shade in order to achieve a natural look.
Original post - here.

Favorite white: Golden Rose Jolly Jewels 115
White base with rainbow glitter? Count me in!

Favorite grey: Essence Grey-t To Be Here
I had to pick this one because of the lovely pink shimmer. I couldn't help myself :)
Original post - here.

Favorite silver: Flormar 112
Whether you're wearing this by itself or you're stamping with it, this polish won't disappoint you, believe me :)
Original post - here.

Favorite gold: Essence Make It Golden
My favorite gold glitter topper of all time!

Favorite black: Golden Rose Jolly Jewels 117
I swear this is the last one from the Jolly Jewels collection. Very elegant!

Favorite special effect polish: CH Nail 02
There were plenty of new nail trends in 2012, but nothing made me as excited as this beautiful glow in the dark polish.

Well, those were my 2012 favorites. Which ones do you like best?

random swatch spam

Hey everyone!
Today I have some swatches for you. Some of them have been sort of lying around, waiting to be posted from a long time ago and some of them are new. Nonetheless, they didn't really fit in other posts, so I decided to just write a random post today :)
Let's start with the prettiest.

Seventeen Supreme 104 is a blue flakie top coat. The flakies aren't chunky, they are small and delicate, just the way I like them. This is a polish that works best on darker shades. I layered it on top of Rimmel Aye, Aye Sailor, a navy blue cr‬è‪me, because I hadn't noticed that I have spent my black. I actually love it more on top of the blue one, it really gives it dimension.

S-he Stylezone 313 is a shimmery teal polish. This is my first experience with S-he polishes and it wasn't the best. I absolutely love the color of the polish and all, but the application was horrible. I wish to try more of the brand before I make any bad assumptions, after all it could be a faulty bottle. The problem was the brush. The bottle is pretty tall and the brush is really long. There was tons of polish dripping all over and I ended up applying more polish than I should have hence the bubbles.

Aura Look Into His Eyes is a lovely vintage-y pink cr‬è‪me. It's opaque in 2 coats and it's absolutely great for those who want to wear something subtle. In fact, I wore it on my Nude & Lace manicure, but I didn't have a swatch photo back then.

Rapsodi Pacific 13 is a pink neon polish with a jelly-like consistency. It's not really opaque by itself, so I layered it over white. It gave me a hard time when I tried to photograph it and this was the best I could do :)

And those are the swatches for today :)
Just a quick note. My second midterms are coming up and I might be a bit absent from blogging again.
Don't worry, though, I'm planning to come back with loads of nail art for you guys!

golden rose jolly jewels 110 & 111

Hey everyone!
What I have for you today is the final two Jolly Jewels polishes that I own.

Jolly Jewels 110 is a glittery mix consisted of larger red and smaller black hexagon glitter suspended in a milky white base. Unlike the previous ones I showed you (especially when compared to Jolly Jewels 115), this one was pretty streaky. The glitter spreads nicely, just like the other ones from this collection. For me, this is one of the polishes that you buy just to look at them. I mean, it looks absolutely amazing in the bottle, but it didn't really turn up so good on the nails.

Jolly Jewels 111 is a glittery mix consisted of larger gold and smaller silver hexagon glitter suspended in a light blue jelly base. I'm not going to repeat myself here, but I have to mention that the base isn't opaque, as well, so you might want to layer it on top of a similar colored polish.

golden rose jolly jewels 115

Hey everyone!
Yet another Jolly Jewels swatch for you. I'm really taking my time with these polishes because they are absolutely gorgeous and instead of just swatching them all at once, I actually wear for a while :)

Jolly Jewels 115 is a gorgeous glittery mix consisted of multicolored hexagonal glitter suspended in a white jelly base. It literally has every single color in it. You can achieve the jelly sandwich look with this polish very easily. Also, it's a dupe for China Glaze It's a Trap-eze. I don't actually own the polish to compare, but according to the photos I've seen, it's pretty close to it, maybe even exactly the same. What I love about it is that it wasn't too gritty or chunky like some of the previous ones.

Even though it's very pretty by itself, I decided to stamp on top, just to see how stamping goes on top of glitter, as I haven't done it before. Please note that I haven't stamped in a while and my nails have grown bigger than the images on the plates :)

polish days: something new

Hey everyone!
It's time for January's another Polish Days. I missed a couple of months, but hopefully I'll be able to do all of them from now on.

The theme is about trying something new, something I haven't done before. There were plenty of things to choose from as I didn't experiment a lot in the past year while there were tons of different trends that came up. In the end I chose to do "velvet nails", because I had ordered a bunch of flocking powder that arrived just in time for Polish Days.

I decided to do the thumb and ring finger only, as I didn't want to overdo the nails.
I wasn't so sure about it, but now that I tried it, I fell in love with this look.

Here's a close up for you :) As for the durability, it didn't last long. I washed my hands more than a few times during the day and plenty of the powder fell off. The feeling isn't weird at all, I barely felt it on my nails.

golden rose jolly jewels 105

Hello everyone!
Another gorgeous swatch for you today.

Golden Rose Jolly Jewels 105 is a glittery mix consisted of large green and small purple hexagons suspended in a sheer pink/lavender base. Just like the others from this collection it spreads nicely, it's opaque in 2 coats and definitely needs a thicker top coat.
I love the color clash that's going on here :)

Just for comparison, here it is without any top coat. Look how uneven it looks.
